Hopeless Romantic

Once a dump, not always a dump.

Sure, Paris oozes romance at every street corner, Florence dizzies you with charm and Vienna gleams of timeless beauty.  Nothing though, matches the romantic breakfast I had at one of Berlin’s finest eateries.

Cosily squeezed in between two traffic-filled, graffiti laden, loud and smokey city streets. Cutely tucked underneath a metro line that shakes above you with every passing train. Historically situated in what used to be a public toilet, Burgermeister blows the competition out of the water.

This Berliner institution is both respected and delicious.  More a beacon of conservation and pragmatism than modernisation - there’s nothing I don’t like about the place.  Much like the rest of town, it’s also got a sense of humour: formerly a public pissoir, it’s now potey-free.  Most importantly, though, the burgers are damn good.

Chili, barbecue or bacon with chili and cheese covered fries on the side, get ready to get your hands dirty with your special someone.  I mean, can you get anymore romantic than this?  Now that’s amore - just pass the ketchup.
