Since listening to their track, Hummer, I’ve been hooked by Foals‘ crisp guitars, tight drums and catchy hooks. Their new single, Spanish Sahara, though is quite different. Nearly seven minutes of mostly subdued singing builds up to a cathartic climax which has me clicking replay more times than I’d like to admit to.
This song reminds me of one of my favorites, TV on the Radio’s Staring at the Sun, in the way it somehow manages to be both energizing yet relaxing. That song helped get me through my degree and I can see Spanish Sahara pushing me through a stressful time sometime down the road.
I already couldn’t wait to see these guys live but now, thanks to this track, I’m itching for both their upcoming album, Total Life Forever (out May 10), and this year’s Melt! Festival to come round sooner. Until then, it’s repeat replay for me…
Foals are playing at Berlin’s C-Club on April 12. Get tickets while you still can.
